A letter from Dr. Maia in Chicuque

Received from Dr. Eduardo Maia, in Chicuque, on 31 Jan 2009

Eduardo Maia.

Translation:
Hi Don!
Please excuse my delay in responding to you. I was out of Mozambique at the end of January. I think the dates (for your travel) are excellent, God willing, I will be here. You can confirm your reservations at the Guest House. It will be saved for you. Please confirm the specialties of the doctors who are coming and the other work you’d like to do, so that everything can be organized ahead of time.
A hug.
Eduardo Maia

Chicuque

Here's the web site for the Chicuque Rural Hospital, where we'll be going in June 2009.

http://new.gbgm-umc.org/umcor/work/health/hospitals/chicuque/

Founded by a Methodist missionary in 1913, today the hospital provides healthcare to approximately 500,000 men, women and children in Mozambique, southeast Africa.

From AIDS outreach programs and tuberculosis vaccinations to emergency surgery and physical therapy, the hospital's doctors, technicians and nurses struggle daily to meet the dire needs of their patients. Supplies that are considered fundamental in American healthcare - gauze and gloves or formula for newborns - are not guaranteed to the patients of Chicuque. Despite the hardships, Chicuque Rural Hospital has one of the best reputations in the country

Initial Posting to Blog for 2009 Mission trip to Mozambique

Hello Friends,
This blog will initially serve as a repository of information as we prepare for our mission trip to Mozambique. I'll try to keep information here so that you won't necessarily need to create your own filing system, and so others can also get access to information without being part of our email group.

Please feel free to add information or ask questions here.
